Scales for Schools

Welcome to the ISWM's Scales for Schools initiative! This is the scale industry's opportunity to help young people in our public schools increase their knowledge of science and math through the use of scales.

Why participate in the Scales for Schools program?
  • Public school systems don't have sufficient funds to purchase enough lab balances and other types of scales that they need to provide quality education to their students.
  • Scale dealers, manufacturers and distributors have used and new balances and other types of scales in their warehouses that they will never sell because they are overstocked, used or simply too old but still in good working condition.
  • The ISWM has a Code of Business Ethics in its constitution that encourages good citizenship and has a goal to "support and promote all the uplifting influences of the community." What better way to promote this ideal than to have the ISWM use some of its resources to help the needy public schools find available free scales?
The rules of the program are simple. We are asking dealers and manufacturers to send the ISWM a list of the scales they have available to donate and their contact information. We'll post this information on the website and invite public schools to contact directly the companies with scales they can use. It is up to the individual company to decide if it wants to ship the scales free of charge or require the recipient to pay for the shipping. Recipients may be asked to prepare and send a receipt to the donor for this charitable donation in a form acceptable to the IRS.
